Magelang, C Java, ANTARA JATENG - Some 2,800 security officers are deployed to guard Borobudur Temple from protestors planing to hold a rally for Rohingya solidarity, here, Friday.
The officers comprising military and police personnel, would guard Borobudur Temple, An-Nur Mosque, and Mendut Temple, Inspector General Condro Kirono, chief of the Central Java Provincial Police, said.
They would sterilize the Buddhist ancient temple from protestors.
The security measures would be multi-layers to prevent protestors from entering Magelang in general and Borobudur Temple in particular.
The Police would only open An-Nur Mosque for mass Friday prayers, but not for a rally.
Because An-Nur Mosque could only accommodate some 1,500 worshipers, 35 other smaller mosques would also be prepared to accommodate worshipers who want to pray and collect donations for prosecuted Rohingya ethnic minority.
Thousands of people from over 700 mass organizations have planned to stage rally in Borobudur Temple to show solidarity toward Muslim Rohingyas and condemn genocide and ethnic cleansing committed by the Myanmar Government in Rakhine state, home to more than one million Rohingyas.
Last Sept 6, thousands of protestors staged a rally in front of the embassy of Myanmar in Jakarta to demonstrate their solidarity towards the oppressed Rohingyas.
The rally, dubbed #Action Of Humanitarian Solidarity Toward Rohingyas, was participated in by several mass organizations such as FPI, Muhammadiyah`s Student Association (IMM), the Bulan Bintang Youth, the Indonesian Muslim Student Association (HMI), and GPMI.
"We condemn the terrorists who massacred Rohingyas!" Mira Sumira, of the Indonesian Muslim Workers Movement (GPMI), stated.
They called on the Government of Myanmar to stop discrimination and genocide against Rohingyas.
Myanmar should recognize Rohingyas as its legitimate citizens and help improve their welfare too, they noted.
