Jakarta (ANTARA) - As many as 779 earthquakes were recorded in February 2020 in Indonesian territory, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded.
"The number of earthquakes in February increased from January 2020, which occurred 518 times," BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation Section Head Daryono said in Jakarta on Thursday.
He noted that there were 27 significant earthquakes with a magnitude above 5.0, an increase from 18 such earthquakes in January.

During February 2020, earthquake activity was dominated by small magnitude earthquake activity below magnitude 5.0, which occurred 752 times. This number also increased from the previous month, which recorded 500 such earthquakes.
Earthquakes with shocks felt by the community occurred 76 times, this number increased from the previous month, which saw 54 such earthquakes.
During February 2020, a devastating earthquake occurred once, the North Seram Earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.4 on February 8, 2020 at 13.36.46 WIB.

The earthquake caused damage to factory buildings and 21 homes of residents in Kobisonta, North Seram Sub-District, Central Maluku District.
During February 2020 active clusters of earthquakes were recorded in Aceh, Mentawai-West Sumatra, Bengkulu, Sunda Strait, West Java, East Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumba, Alor, Banda Sea, Ambon, Seram, Central Sulawesi, Maluku Sea, and Mamberamo.
