NU Cadres Vow to Defend Pancasila against Radicalism
Kebumen, C Java, April 17 (Antara) - Around 15,000 cadres of the Central Java branch of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the country`s largest Islamic organization, rallied at Petanahan Beach in the district of Kebumen, and vowed to defend the national unity and the state ideology on Sunday .
"Hereby we declare that we are ready to die for Pancasila against attempt to undermine the national integrity," instructor of education of NU cadres KH. Hudalloh said.
Meanwhile, Committee Chairman for Istighosah and Rally KH. Muzammil said the country is facing serious threat of radicalism seeking to disrupt religious harmony.
"The state is facing serious threat of radicalism. Hardliners have continued to haunt and threatens religious harmony. Therefore, we think it is time to move to save the nation," KH. Muzammil said.
The rally was preceded by praying together for the safety of the nation on the Petanahan beach on Saturday.
Rois Syuriah of the Central Java branch of NU KH. Ubaidilah Shodaqoh said the Unitary State of Indonesia (NKRI) is final for Indonesia, adding NKRI was the form that could protect all citizens despite the diversity.
"NKRI, therefore, is not to be bargained away and all NU cadres in Indonesia have vowed and are committed to defending it to the death," he said.
He said there are groups which continue to seek to call for the establishment of khilafah Islamiyah or Islamic State that should not be allowed.
"NU is in the front line to face it," he said.
