Jakarta (ANTARA) - Nahdlatul Ulama's (NU's) youth wing Ansor Youth Movement (GP Ansor) will deploy its militia organization Banser NU to guard Minister Mahfud MD's parents' residence in Pamekasan, East Java, after several mobs raided it, Dec 1.
GP Ansor Chief Yaqut Cholil Qoumas remarked that the organization will protect leaders of NU -- the largest Islamic organization-- including Coordinating Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Minister Mahfud MD from any threats.
"This is the task of Banser to protect Kiai (religious leaders) as well as NU's leaders from any threats," Qoumas noted in a statement here on Wednesday.
Earlier, on Tuesday afternoon, several mobs raided Mahfud's residence in Bugih Village, Pamekasan, East Java. Mahfud's mother resided in the house.
Banser NU from the Pamekasan area will guard the house until the situation is conducive.
"They will guard the house in shifts in coordination with the local police," he noted.
Qoumas expressed concern over the act, as the house is currently occupied by Mahfud's mother.
The mobs were not permitted to act the way they did, for which he called on the police to investigate the case.
Head of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police, Sen. Comm. Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, noted that the police had dispersed the mobs, and the action did not last long.
Andiko noted that the arrival of masses at the house was a spontaneous action after they voiced their opinion at the Police over Rizieq's summons and the questioning at Polda Metro Jaya.
