Solo, Antara Jateng - Indonesia's Davis Cup tennis team defeated Sri Lanka's team 5-0 in the men's degradation round of Group II Asia/Oceania 2016 in Manahan, Solo, Central Java, on Sunday.
The Indonesian team confirmed the 5-0 victory over Sri Lanka after its final men's singles player David Agung Susanto overpowered Sri Lankan Yasitha De Silva 6-3, 6-1.
David Agung Susanto's victory made Indonesia to remain in Davis Cup Group II Asia/Oceania Zone along with eight other countries next year.
In the fourth match Indonesian player Aditya Hari Sasongko beat Nishangan Nadaraja 6-0, 6-1.
In the match the day before Indonesia's duo Christopher Rungkat/Sunu Wahyu Trijati won over Harshana Godamannan/Yasitha De Silva 6-2, 6-3, 6-0.
On the first day of the tournament David Agung Susanto defeated Hashana Godamannan 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 and second men's singles player Christopher Rungkat beat Yasitha De Silva 6-2, 6-0, 6-2.
Indonesia's Davis Cup team captain Andrian Raturandang said the country's team had been able to win all five matches to meet the expectation.
"We expressed appreciation to all players who have participated in the Davis Cup team and work hard with discipline and high motivation to finally be able to pass the degradation round in Group II," he said.
Adrian said Aditya and David who played in the final day on Sunday had performed more maximally making them able to win their matches.
"Evaluation on all Indonesian Davis Cup team players still have to be done for the future Davis Cup tournament," he said.
He said he would give opportunities to the second-tier players to participate in the future competition.
"We are open to accept any player who is ready to enter the Davis Cup team. This 5-0 victory over Sri Lanka will serve as motivation to rise for the next Davis Cup event," he said.
He said Indonesian tennis players who have world ranking include Christopher Rungkat (605) and David Agung Susanto (923).
