Some 7,938 tourists visited the Buddhist temple on Sunday, Head of the Borobudur Temple tourism park unit Bambang Irianto said here Saturday.

        Further, on Monday the temple was visited by 25,179 people, on Tuesday 42,667 and on Wednesday 46,222, he said.

        Most visitors were domestic tourists, he added.

        The number of foreign tourists visiting Borobudur on Sunday was 570, Monday 720, Tuesday 500 and Wednesday 1,800 people.

        The Borobudur management hopes to attract some 250,000 tourists during this year's Idul Fitri holidays, between August 17 to August 26.

        Indonesia's largest Buddhist temple was visited by 173,181 tourists during last year's Idul Fitri holidays, lower than the target of 200,000 tourists.

        The Borobudur Temple Tourism Park management is optimistic that this year the target will be met, Irianto said.
