Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta administration recorded a drop in the occupancy rate of beds for COVID-19 patients' treatment or isolation to reach 60 percent, from earlier 63 percent out of 5,913 beds in 140 COVID-19 referral hospitals on Monday.
"Regarding the bed occupancy rate (BOR) as of yesterday, it has decreased, Alhamdulillah (thank God), from 63 percent to 60 percent," Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria stated at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday.
Patria echoed the Jakarta provincial government's readiness to increase the number of beds if the need arises since during the Delta variant spread earlier in July 2021, the number of beds occupied had peaked at 11,500.
"However, the BOR of intensive care units had increased, from 34 percent to reach 36 percent, or 310 beds occupied from a total of 850 beds," Patria noted.
During the second wave of COVID-19 caused by the Delta variant, the ICU occupancy spiked to around 1,500 beds.
"Thus, no need to worry. In Jakarta, we will continue to increase various hospital facilities and infrastructure, community health centers in villages, sub-districts, health facilities, health workers, as well as medicines, vitamins, and oxygen; all of them," he stressed.
The Jakarta provincial government also continued to rev up administration of the third dose or booster vaccinations, which as of Monday, February 7, 2022, had reached 816,910 people.
"We will try to increase vaccinations. We will accelerate as requested by the Central Government," he remarked.
Based on data from the Jakarta provincial government, the number of active COVID-19 cases, specifically those currently undergoing treatment or isolation as of Monday, increased by 7,316, bringing the total number to 74,535 active cases.
Meanwhile, in the past week, based on data from the Jakarta provincial government as of Monday, 354,916 people had been subject to the PCR test, with a positive case percentage of 22.6 percent.
The number exceeded WHO's target for Jakarta, which is a minimum of 10,645 people tested in a week.
