Semarang, ANTARA JATENG - Cooperation was kicked off between the Central Java provincial government and the Danish government in the fields of renewable energy and environmental management in four districts and cities.
The realization of this form of cooperation was marked by a groundbreaking of the Environmental Support Program Phase 3 (ESP3) by Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo and the Danish ambassador to Indonesia, Timor Leste, Papua New Guinea, and the ASEAN Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen here, Monday (Oct 23).
The four pilot projects are related to the development of off-grid solar power plants in Parang, Nyamuk and Genting Islands, Karimunjawa Islands, and Jepara District, which will operate 24 hours; collection and burning of methane gas from the Jatibarang final disposal site; Semarang for generation of 1 megawatt of power to be connected to PLN`s network; waste processing at the Tritih Lor final disposal site for fuel; and processing liquid and solid wastes from the starch industry in Daleman and Pucang Miliran Villages, Klaten District.
Central Java Governor Pranowo said the project aspires to realize environment and energy management.
"Today, we have held the groundbreaking. Hopefully, this will serve as a pilot and be replicated in several places. I am happy, as technology can transform wastes into something useful," he noted.
Pranowo remarked that the people will benefit from the cooperation projects.
"The Danish government will only help in terms of technology and funds, while we are the one who will run and maintain it," he explained.
Ambassador Kristensen pointed out that the main reason that Central Java Province was selected to be the pilot project`s location is since Governor Pranowo is viewed as being a visionary figure.
"The leader here (Central Java Province) is able to recognize local areas of potential, such as converting waste into energy, and there are also situations where we can technically apply the technology," he said.
The ESP3 project in Central Java is expected to be the first step towards realizing a Green Indonesia and providing alternative solutions for waste and renewable energy management.
