On Sunday, the police came to the house of Ngatemi who reported the alleged synthetic rice to take sample of the rice for investigation.
The police later came to the shop where she bought the rice.

"We have checked the rice in a simple way by pouring it into water," Head of the Certain Crime Unit at the Semarang City Police Adj. Cpmsr. Agus said.

The sample of the rice will be checked at a laboratory to see if it contains industrial plastic, he said.

The issue of plastic rice started creating public fear following reports of fake rice from a porridge seller in Bekasi, West Java.

PT Sucofindo in Bekasi conducted a lab test on sample of the rice and found that it contained plastic substance.

The National Police (Polri) later sent the sample of the rice to the Bogor-based Institute of Agriculture (IPB) and the University of Indonesia (UI) for reexamination.

Based on the results of the lab tests conducted by the two institutes of higher learning, the rice sample did not contain the suspected substance.

Head of the Public Relations Division of Polri Inspector General Anton Charliyan suspected that the difference in test results was due to a different method being applied. ***2***
