Incessant heavy downpour over the last couple of days caused the river to overflow, with water level rising up to one meter and inundating houses in Dukuh Nusupan village, Grogol Sub-district, Sukoharjo, Grogol Sub-district Head Agus Tinus Setyawan said here on Wednesday.

The Grogol authorities have distributed instant noodles and rice to the flood victims.

"We have also provided cooked food," he said. Villager Bardiman said water level started to rise at 6.30am local time, forcing residents to evacuate their belongings to safer areas.

Floods also reportedly hit Weru and Tawangsari sub-districts of Sukoharjo district in the early hours of Wednesday. A number of people have also decided to take refuge at An Nikmah mosque, he said.
